I have looked in front of the gas tank, and i'm pretty sure what I get my hands on is the fuel pump. Others that have a 91 as well say that there's is in the tank? Did they move it outside in later models?

Also, would anyone know the correct part # or best place to get e replacement exterior fuel pump?

TIA!

i may be wrong but i dont think the fuel pump is external it should be in the tank. you get to it from an access door in the trunk behind the rear seats under the carpet/plywood trunk floor
another way is to drop the tank and replace it that way. roto can probably tell you for shure

That's your fuel filter. You have to remove the cover panel in the trunk area (2 screws IIRC) and lift the floor out. you will then see two round metal plates that are the covers for access for the pump and fuel sender. The larger cover is the pump. This is an in the tank type of pump, so make sure you work where the gas fumes are cleared away as you work or make sure you clean the area before you remove the old pump and keep any dirt or debris from falling in while you work.

Thanks for the reply. I read that somewhere else as well, but I looked everywhere for an access door where the spare tire resides and I can't find anything except 2 hoses. The main filler hose, and a smaller hose. I must have a very odd '91 900.

some of them did not come with the door you will either have to drop the tank or cut an access panel either way its no fun

As to replacement pumps- high end is Bosch (oem) and can be found for less than list on e-bay from warehouse sellers. If you can replace the pump in the housing yourself, great!. Other wise I suggest shopping online. You have to make the time /money determination. Is the time w/o car worth the money I saved, etc.

The fuel tank is forward of the spare tire well- You are looking at the filler and vent hoses too the tank. the floor panel just forward of the tire well is the panel I am referring to . You may have to pull back slightly before lifting as I don't recall at the moment if the screws are part of a clip assembly.

I have looked in front of the gas tank, and i'm pretty sure what I get my hands on is the fuel pump assembly (http://www.racepages.com/parts/fuel_pump_assembly.html). Others that have a 91 as well say that there's is in the tank? Did they move it outside in later models?

Also, would anyone know the correct part # or best place to get e replacement exterior fuel pump?

TIA!Locate the fuel pump access area - beneath a carpeted flap under the back seats. Prep the area with your drop cloth and duct tape, as fuel will spill when you remove the assembly.
