Default broken rear view mirror

[&:] 95 9000cse, went to adjust the rear view mirror and the metal rod broke in half, it was hanging by a wire. Have it held up with cable ties now. Can I cut the wire, what is it for. I just ***ume replace it with a glue on version. Thoughts???

HI MATE, JUST NOTICED YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT USING A STICK ON MIRROR.

IN MY EXPERIENCE IT IS BETTER TO GET A PROPER REPLACEMENT IF YOU CAN, THE STICK ON ONES ALWAYS FALL OFF EVENTUALLY........

NOT SURE ABOUT THE WIRE, WILL HAVE A LOOK AND SEE IF I CAN FIND OUT WHAT ITS FOR....
