Default Am Buying A Saab for the first time.

Hello, Just wanted to introduce myself. If all goes well (unless I see something This Monday - 9/22 - that I didn't see this past Thursday), I should be picking up an '04 9-5 Arc Wagon with 74K on the clock. My biggest concern is the fact that it's an automatic.

But given the fact that I am getting one helluva deal on this car (No accidents, everything looks clean), and I need a car desperately (been without one and shopping for one for over 4 weeks - not easy when you have a 45 minute commute each way and you have to use your motorcycle everyday regardless of weather)

My oldest brother used to have the most tricked out 1985 Saab 900 Turbo back in the day, and is a REAL car nut. He told me that as far as his recollection goes, Saab has never been one in quality when it comes to automatics, but he did say, that could have been just back in the '80's. Does anyone here know of any general reputation (good or bad) about Saab automatics? I'd appreciate any and all input. Thanks.

VARICK

Default RE: Am Buying A Saab for the first time.

I was the same way on my 9-3 purchase with 60k on it......I drove it home 400miles and three days later I noticed auto trans fluid spotting beneath the car........hose to the tranny cooler was a little loose. 80,000 miles later the trans shifted smooth as well as did when I bought it and considering it had taken on a little "hard driving" at times I have a good feeling about the autos in Saab despite the 80's auto problem child.

I was happy to find a manual 9-5 annnnnn the state patrol just outside of the Grand Canyon congratulated me as well ~with a written.
