Yes, but...
When mine went at around 150K on the '96 900S, it was a solenoid problem, which is part of what is usually though of as being the starter, its actually an ***embly.
In your case, with this grinding, its a starter drive gear or, Heavens forbid, a bad starter ring gear.....this you do not want .....unless you are made of money...

The drive gear was a separate part, as is of course the ring gear...IMO, your best deal is a rebuilt, about 1/2 to 1/10 the cost of a new one.
