Is it ok to take my Saab to a standard oil change?
I have a 2000 Saab 9-3 with 91k miles. I have been taking it to the Saab dealer every 2800 miles and paying $120.00 to have the oil changed. What is the difference between this oil change and a standard oil change that costs half as much?

I switched to the DIY home method 2 changes ago and cut the price by over 50%.
I'll grant that a conscientious dealer will take a look around while it's on the lift but if an oil change is all you're after, do it yourself.
And use synthetic oil.
If you're using synthetic oil, then you are changing your oil way to much anyways. For an older model with say synthetic, you should be able to push at least 5,000 miles with no problems depending on driving conditions.
Wow, what great advice, change the oil less frequently. 10 year old Saabs always do well when you stretch out maintenence and dont follow the owner's manual.
