Default 01 9-5 4cyl turbo Tapping Sound

Hello, I bought this car as is on Ebay with a supposed bad starter. When I picked up the car I got it to crank so I new it was not the starter just a loose battery cable, the car however did not start. So when I got it home and after a few test I replaced the direct ignition, the car started right up with a tapping sound that either goes up and down with the rpms. I dropped the oil pan and the pickup screen was clugged, cleaned it. With fresh Synth oil I though maybe it would go away, NOT. So I when ahead and took the valve cover off to see the condition of the cylinder head, to my surprise it was brand new. I did a quick start and there was tons of oil coming up. Now, do you guys think there was damage to the lifters if not enough oil was getting there, prior to the pickup screen cleaning? I've solved a lot of issues with this car that were just poor mechanics being done, The car runs amazing exept it sounds like a diesel. I'm not using it to prevent any further damage.

the hydraulic tappets could be gunged up, from previous oil, try a good engine flush before putting new oil in, if that doesnt clear it then it might be your lifters

i dont see why you cant drive it, it shouldnt get any worse, but you might think about just looking at your camshaft to see if ther lobes are worn.

The main problem with Saab is that GM has seen its unique Swedish BMW, nor what it was: Saab, a single subject. BMW 5 Series is much more money. Why maintain the standard premium Saab? Enjoy what is, large tank (at least before 2006 Aero form) is easy to drive.

hi, i have listened to the noise, boy what a noise it is, sounds like a couple of 3 things,
either valve lifters are not working or the camshaft is worn ( need to take the valve cover off for this, but renew the seal)
the timing chain is loose, due to faulty chain tensioners ( bigger job, check the 1st on first)
just hope it isnt this 1,loose big ends on the piston ( this is a very big job)
either way, it needs addressing, doesnt sound nice at all

Default 01 9-5 tapping noise

I went ahead and took the valve cover off to see the condition of the cylinder head, to my surprise it was brand new, as if it was installed yesterday not a hint of damage. I also posted on other forums and I'm getting at least 4 members saying it's the water pump bearing gone wish is known to make bad sounds. I'll remove the belt and check.

Took the serpentine belt off, the tapping is still there. I will make a visit to my local saab tech.
