Immobilizer issues

'97 Saab 900 Talladega (Australia)

It seems from day one my folks have had issues with the immobilizer on the above vehicle.

The main issue seems to be the engine will not turn over at all. The Saab dealer (muppets) has suggested in the past to rock the vehicle (forwards / backwards) with it in gear (possibly park) to fix it. Its been towed back to the shop on at least one ocassion.

However they've not been able to come up with any permanent "fix" or suggest what actually causes it.

It happened again today stranding us. Rolling it down the incline it was parked on seemed to fix the problem.

Can anyone suggest a permanent fix?

Are you sure it's an immobilizer issue and not a starter circuit or a bad crank position sensor?

Not sure - could be any of what you suggest. Local dealer is completely useless (and there's only one). Is there anything particular I should look at to begin ruling things out?

Is the car a manual transmission? If not than another thing to check is the neutral safety switch. Now see if the car acts up only if the engine is warm - that would point to a CPS. If you have to rock it back and forth and it's an auto - neutral safety switch.

Yes its an automatic transmission.

I'll have to dig up a service manual and locate the switch now ;)

I would assume the only way to test is to wait for a "fault" and then test the switch. If it is inaccessible I'm wondering if I can fit and leave a length of wire as a test point I can use when the fault rears its head again...

Cheers, Antony.

New Clutch and Stick Linkage

New Clutch and Stick Linkage

Hello all
I have a 1995 Saab 900s. 2.3 liter 5 speed. I replaced the Clutch, Trans, and Linkage all at the same time have not been messing with her for a few months. But my wife's car her trans went so not seeing I have it all in the Saab I thought I would start driving my baby. So here is my problem how do I get the shifter linkage to line up with the clutch. Have tried and failed. Please any info would be great thank you in advanced.

I Had that same problem with the safety switch but it would do it cold or hot

I don't think it is a immobilizer issue. There is some other problem.
