9-3 losing oil through turbo?

Help.
I recently bought a 9-3 for my daughter(2001) and today it started smoking very badly. Engine oil was down, but clean, no coolant loss. I suspect it is going through the turbo unit somehow and out the exhaust. Anybody else ever have this happen or can someone suggest what to look at. Car has 79000 miles on it.

Thanks, David

it is not at all uncommon for a turbo to have the seals fail, and when they do, they allow oil to enter the exhaust and such...did the car ever sit for a period of time?

RE: 9-3 losing oil through turbo?

hi all, new to site and to world of saabs,
as for the above post about turbo smoking, my saab has been of the the road for about a year now and i finaly got round to changing the clutch on it (WHAT A NIGHTMARE THAT WAS) but anyway got it all done and took it for a long drive approx 60miles and the way home it started smoking and when i let off the gas and then as i reaplied it, the engine judder and hesitate as if were going to stall the engine, the smoke got worse and when i got home i checked the oil and it was dry, i put some more oil in and the smoke got even worse, so much that i could hardly see the car through the smoke, at first i thought it may be that the fuel in the tank was off do to it being sitting around for a year so i put about 10 ltrs in from an empty tank but still smoking, also the check engine light has come on, any help or advise on this would be greatfull, thanks wayne

pop the charge piping open ans see if there's a lot of oil in it.
