hello,i just recently got a spg 1988. and it came with a noise that the owner said was a failed transmission. i however tend to think it may only be a bearing noise i hear. I can drive and shift the car in all gears ,but the whinning noise is persistant. now how do i know for sure. and is throwout bearing or pinion bearing replacement possible for the mechanically inclined? thanks

 

hmmm..a friend of mine had a throwout bearing issue...and it had a bit of a whine to it...that tranny lasted through quite a bit of modding, and in the end, the diff. itself gave out before the tranny did.
