need a little help with this damn car. i bought a 1996 saab 900s non turbo and the other day i was backing up and the car kind of popped out of gear so i tried to put it back in reverse and discovered that revesre was no reverse just wouldnt move. it shifts great through 1-5th but no reverse PLEASE GOD HELP ME!!!! thanks adam

 

As a new old Saab owner myself (94 900 S), I didn't at first realize the manual shifter has a release mechanism just under the shift **** you need to pull-up on to allow the transmission to be shifted into reverse. Hope thats all your problem...

By the way, on my 94, you HAVE to put it in reverse to get the key out of the ignition.

 

oh yeh i knew all that and sice putting this thread on hear i have also learned that the trans was at fault and had to buy a new one by the way this cost me 1200 dollars that really does suck

 

thats a saab for you, nothing is cheap... but you cant bring yourself to get rid of it!
