Its really hard to put a "typical" lifespan on a part. I have done water pumps with as little as 20,000 miles on them and have seen some last 200,000.

As far as antifreeze goes, there is a difference between green and orange. Orange coolant is silicate free and many people attribute the "silicate free" coolants as the reason for high failure rates and often go back to green coolant.However, I have never seen actual proof of this, its mostly just here-say.
