I think I'm buying a 1999 9-5..
 

I'm new to Saab, I've always liked their looks. I found this ad on craigslist and wanted to get some opinions.. what should I look for when test driving? I live in Oregon and drive about 90 miles a day for work. Do you think they'll be any issues or anything I should be aware of?

Here's the ad:

1999 Saab 9-5 4-door sedan, 4 cyl. with turbo, fully loaded with leather, AC, PW, PDL, cruise, tilt, 5 speed manual, sun roof, new tires. Gets 34 hwy. miles/gal. Very clean and in great condition. 78500 miles. Clean title. $5,ooo OBO

I doubt the 34 MPG part...my coworkerbarely gets 28... however it is a great car... I love them...

I'm in the same boat. Getting rid of my 20year old BMW and thinking SAAB or AUDI.I'm seeing alot of 8 or 9 year old SAABs in Dallas with just over 100k miles and between $5000-$7000. I mostly like the convertibles. What kinda things wear out on these? I expect the timing chains to be replaced. Should I think Auto Trans are about dead, top motors, suspension pieces, anything else? NewSAABguy, post back what you experience please. THANKS

Motor mounts, turbo needs a rebuild by 100K usually, oil pan needs cleaning. On convertibles, the hoses can sometimes start leaking. It's part of normal life of any 100K mile car. Basically expect to invest 1500 into a 5-6000 car and you'll be golden.
