NC Mtn SAAB Run - Nov 3 & 4, 2007

Anyone want to do aSAAB Run Weekend, Nov 3 &4 in the NC Mountains? Run will include twisted and switchback roads west of Asheville, including communities of Brevard, Cashiers, Highlands, Dillsboro, Sylva, Bryson City, Robbinsville, Deal's Gap and Cherokee, with roads to includeNC 107, NC 215, US 276, NC 281, the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC 28 and perhaps US 129 which is Tail of the Dragon, a favorite for motorcycles and sports cars everywhere. [8D]

SAAB owners of coupes, verts, sedans, SUVs welcome. This will not be a road and track course - local laws need to be obeyed. If you have other ideas or expectations - you feel more suited atCMP, VIR and Road Atlanta. Expect this to be an overnight event for you and yours. Bring the kids if you want - some of the best parts of our corner of North America are waiting to be explored in your SAAB! Imagine a picnic on the Parkway under a clear blue sky at 5900 feet! :)

If there is any interest, please email me here at trollhattanperformance@earthlink.net and we'll coordinate meeting locations and times. Thanks and see you on the road....

RE: NC Mtn SAAB Run - Nov 3 & 4, 2007

Alright then, we have interest and therefore we have a SAAB run! [sm=icon_ladiesman.gif]

AllCharlotte, NC metro area SAAB owners will meet atthe Gaston County Visitor's Center in Belmont, NC (Exit 26 and I-85) at9:30 AM on Saturday, November 3, 2007.

SAAB owners inother areas of NC and SCare encouraged to coordinate their meeting locations. This may be best facilitated here on saabforums.com or in your respective SAAB clubs.

Some of you have caravaned before and some have not. Unlike a road rally which requires incredible navigation, you'll have a good idea of the roads before we take them. You will however need two-way radio communication which is best done with FRS radios, those little 2-way radios you see in the stores.

They have about a 1-mile line of sight range in the mountains. They are the only radios that will work in the mountains. Don't expect your Nextel radioor cell phone to be of much use. OnStar will pretty much be a thing of the past too. Expect to pay about $30 for a decent pair of radios and a charger. Once all SAABs get to Saluda, we'll be on Channel 11.

The plan isfor all SAABs tomeet in downtown Saluda, NC at The Purple Onion,129 Main Street, at noon on Saturday. We'll have lunch and then take off together on some of those great Carolina backroads. If you like, check out therestaurant menu at www.purpleonionsaluda.com.

Details on suggested lodging and a sampling of the routes(motels, B&Bs, inns) will be provided in the coming weeks. Staying overnight is an option for all - but a weekend in the NC mountains is a treat anyway you slice it! :)

Thanks for your interest and we'll see you on November 3rd in downtown Saluda!
