30,000 Mile Service

As I mentioned in my first post, I am new to the forum. my wife and I have a 2007 9-3 with around 33m miles on it. I know the book calls for a 30M mile service. We are also approaching the next oil change at around 35M via 4th service. The 30M service is around $700, while just the oil change/tire rotate is approx. $150ish. How important is the 30M service, based upon your experiences? Is it imperative that the dealer perform it? I realize that owning a euro car just cost more to play along and I am okay with that. I know of a guy who works on Saabs/Audi/Volvos in my city, but am not 100% sure that I get the same piece of mind that I would get from a dealer. Sure, dealers will gouge you and no, not all independent guys who specialize in euro cars are bad news. So, I guess I am curious to how many on the board did their 30M mile services and would you say that it was a good decision to do that? I have enjoyed the car and look to enjoy it for another 5 years or so. It is my first Saab and I've had two volvos prior, so I am somewhate familiar with how these beauties run.

I'm not sure on the 2007, but a 30K mile service to me has always been a redundancy...also $150 for oil/tire rotation is outrageous to me.

I have a 2007 9-3 and just finished the 30k service.. The 30k service was free but they said my back brakes needed to be replaced. This cost me about $250.00. The 30k service was just an oil change FYI or at least that is all they put on my receipt.

Since my 1st 3 services were covered under warranty I ask the guy how much the 40k service cost and he replied about 300.00 dollars... I then asked what it covered (Inspection of air filter, brakes, ect, and an oil change).

He said my front brakes probably would need to be changed on this service also and that would cost another 360.00 dollars. He said it cost a little bit more because they have to rotate something when they change the Pads. I have done a few brake jobs in the past how hard is it on the Saab?

I will not be taking the car to the deal anymore for service.. Mobile One does not cost 100.00 dollars let along 300.00 for the car. I can understand paying $150.00 (Oil is like 50 dollars + $40 filter + Labor + tax) but 300.00 better come with a few strippers.

the filter does not cost $40 either... the brakes aren't that difficult, just like on any other disk brake equipped car. Do them yourself and save the money.

yeah, I plan on it. I guess they say you need some type of tool to push back the cylinder to change the pad.. I used to use a C-clamp I wounder if that will still work.

Thanks for the imput. I might go see my local Euro Car repair guy and get a quote. I am mainly concerned with the fluid flush and the rear brakes. I will also check dealers in houston and Dallas to see what they price that service at as well.

Thanks,

Not sure on your year...if they're the screw type you can use a large screwdriver to get the piston back in though.
