60K for $780?
I bought an '06 9-3 several months ago with 50K from a Saab dealer and was told to bring it in for the 60K service/oil change. Today I call and they tell me that it's a must to change the filters, the spark plugs, everything almost if needed. I asked how much is this gonna cost and they tell $780. I told them for that kind of money I'll save $500 and self insure it myself. I got the impression that they just wouldn't do the oil change and rotate the tires. I told them that I put on a lot of miles and could possibly be at the 90K service by the end of the year and hate to spend the money.
I have a tough time trying to justify this cost for a car that I'm probably going to be out of in a year and just trade it in. To spend that kind of money to get a stamp and keep the Saab police from me seems foolish when most of the work I can do myself. Plus, this car is out of warranty anyway. I know this topic has probably been beaten to death on this board but I'm venting and think I'm really paying $780 for a oil change/tire rotation and service manager that says, "We looked at it and everything was fine." I kind of hate the attitude they have where they act like all hell is going to break loose if I don't do the 60. Hell, I checked the air filter today for giggles and it's new. Seems like a rip. |
