Changing your own oil
Hi - I just bought a 2002 9-3 sedan/hatchback with the 2.3 turbo. Does anyone here change their own oil? If so.... do you get the filter from Saab? Also... is there anythign tricky/quircky with changing it on this car? For kicks and giggles, I called the Saab dealer and they wanted $79 for an oil change. I got thinking maybe there was somethign really tricky or time consuming on this particular model. I did read that synthetic is the preferred route to take. Thanks in advance.
My 2001 9-3 sedan with the 2.0 turbo motor is the easiest oil change of any car i've ever owned and no I do not use SAAB Filters...AND you MUST use a good synthetic. I change it by about 7500 for the turbo's sake.
I use Repso or Mobil 1 usually.

i change my oil twice a year, i use a fully synthetic oil, 0-15, even though its a high mileage car, runs like a dream, i use any make of filter, but a good oil is needed, easy job to do, you might get your hands a little oily removing the oil filter, other than that, pretty easy
I have the 2003 9-3 Arc 2.0T, and was looking for the Oil filter on the bottom of the car, I found what I believe to be the oil filter on the topside of the engine below the 'Saab Turbo' cover, not too hard to get too, but the replacement filter does not match up- this one screws in and the Filter is visible. Is that right? i thought 1999-2003 oil filter was on the Bottom of the car, I'll be uploading pics later tonight if i don't figure it out by then..
