engine coolant leak

I just picked up a 2000 convertible which seems to be a great car...

Just noticed is leaves a small puddle of coolant on my garage floor about the size of a dollar bill. I have found a small drip coming out of a tube that comes out of the firewall and points down - appears to be a breather tube of some sort.

Has anyone heard of this? Engine temp seems to be right on... I have a local garage that specializes in Saabs and Volvo's - I'm affraid I will get to know this guy well in the next few days.

Thanks

Matt

I'm going to guess that this is a drain off of the heater core drain and that most likely the heater core couplers are leaking. Not too bad of a DIY repair, but a killer if you take it to a shop because it's about 4-5 hours book time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty - I'm afraid to get in over my head. The small used car lot I bought it from has some type of warranty - I'll have to take a look at the fine print and see what they can do for me… I figured I would have to put a few dollars into it.

If it is what I think it is, than it's about 6-8 hours for someone digging into the interior for the first time. I may be wrong though. See if you hear a water rushing sound from the area under the dash when you accelerate or break... also see if there's coolant smell when running the heat on full... there's really not many things in this car that would be "over the head" for a completent DIYer
