Infamous P0420
 

Hello fellow Saab mates, first time caller, long time listener! I’m actually experiencing a P0420 emissions code right after an independent Saab shop installed my PCV kit. They’re telling me that the Catalytic is to blame. But after some research I’m wondering if the new kit made a difference with the fuel air mixture and made it lean or rich somehow. Could anyone shed any light on the subject perhaps? My gorgeous 9400 Vert was purchased back in 16 and since then: rebuilt engine, I made sure maintenance was done accordingly. 3k oil changes, sump was dropped most recently and looked pristine b4 PCV kit. I suppose adding the kit wouldn’t hurt. My Saab runs great, only thing I can say is right after kit was installed my mpg went from low 20’s to 28. I did hear that mpg may increase if kitty is bad but more light needs to be shed again. Thank you all for the years of great information to allow me to do what I needed to keep her alive and kicking.

So, (buttons) lol…. Check engine cleared and I was literally beside myself. Still questioning what parameters or sequences needed to happen for the system register a code after PCV kit update. Honestly, very interesting. Took a 630 mile round trip and it cleared while cruising with night panel engaged. The sheer happiness!

Wish I could have top downed the trip but those little stainless steel clips that locks the top when down engages need to be bent upwards. Currently it says “check soft top”
but indie shop showed me how to bend those clips so it touches underneath top as it lowers in to place. Maybe someone can help.
but check engine cleared and quite happy.
