Me again .. Air Intake questions
;)Hey guys,
I want to get an air intake for my 9-3 but i have no idea whats a good intake for my car or whats the best. Ive seen a couple online but im not sure whats a good one. Does anyone have any preferences ? Also, if you could give me the websites where to get them from that would be awesome! Last question! Does the intake create any problem to the engine? I heard soemthing about the CEL light showing up after an intake was installed. Id like to have one as well but if its gonna create problems id rather not. Thank you, Alex, |
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
I was kind of wondering about this today myself.
Not so much because I want one, but because it looks like the stock intake might be slightly restrictive, especially for a turbo car. Stock works though. Just seems like it wouldn't be hard to improve a little on the design. |
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
Genuinesaab.com has nice intakes.

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
So it shouldnt give me any problems with the CEL or the engine in general if i instal an air intake?
|
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
properly installed - no.

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
I put a new air intake on a Mustang I had once. I didn't have much trouble with it at all. Some of the seals weren't made to well, and I just had to keep a good watch on them to make sure they stayed sealed properly. Anytime a small leak would form, is the only time I'd get a CEL.
Hopefully the newer Air Inductions are better built than the one I had from the good ol days. Of course, mine was mostly home built too, not store bought. |
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
The only way to get a CEL is to get a leak past the MAF.
|
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
That's always were my trouble was, is the rubber seal right behind the MAF would eventually work loose, and the smallest air leaks would turn the CEL on. So hopefully, the new designs take care of most of those problems.

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
Hey Roto, this might be a funny question to you, but whats the MAF?
|
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
Mass airflow sensor.

What would u guys choose for your car between a K&N air intake and a BSR Optiflow Intake? I am leaning more towards the BSR Optiflow but id like to hear the opinion of others as well:)

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
In my book an air intake is an air intake...the one I have I made myself and it does the job...

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
I did some dyno's a while back, and I made more HP with the K&N Panel filter in the stock air box....
I had some results with the Gtech, but I needed to see how much HP I uncorked with the new exhaust. So I did the cone filter and Stock box expierement for my amusement. 192WHP/208Ftlbs K&N Stock box panel filter 188WHP/201Ftlbs Uni Foam Filter 189.1WHP/201ftlbs K&N Cone Filter (recharged) From my turbo miata Temps were 78 Degree's outside temp at reveXtreme brandon florida. Waiting for a cheap stage 2 upgrade soon. My goal is 240WHP. And this was on a Dynojet, uncorrected |
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
that's about right...

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
regarding what you said a while back ago about "properly installed". Since this would be my first air intake that i will have for my car and first time that i will install such thing on my car...any suggestions; things that i should be careful with, stuff that i should look for watch out for what to do what not to do? or is it just safer to have it done at an autoshop?
thx, Alex |
RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
don't take it to a shop is suggestion #1. Just take your time and if you hae a MAF sensor - be very careful with it.

RE: Me again .. Air Intake questions
K&N is the way to go.
They have great intakes, and their filters are all high flow. This means that their are not only open air, but the fibers in the filter let in more air than others do. I have a filter on my 9-5 and the improvement is quite noticable, and my GOD the SOUND, when paired with a diverter valve :D |
