Remove shift knob/install custom shift knob

I'm having a very hard time figuring out how to remove the shift knob in a 04 9-3 2.0T. Everything I find involves drilling and destroying the shift knob, and I don't even know if I'll be able to put on a custom one? It doesn't look threaded?
