Starting problem

Hi all ive a 93 2008 1.9tdi
the problem is i having trouble starting in the cold weather in the summer no problem
ive changed the glow plugs new battery
what seems like ages turning over it finally starts with lots of smoke then when warm it starts on the button any ideas would be helpful

Have you checked the glow plug relay and the buss bar for the glow plugs for resistance.
