2002 Saab 95 auto

Hi I am looking at the above vehicle with a view to purchase, but the owner has pointed out a problem with the auto box.
When first engaging Drive it goes in with quite a "thump", after that all seems ok, any ideas on cause / rectification please, is it an expensive thing to cure, are the gear boxes prone to any particular problem.
many thanks
Alan

Well, I'm not a fan of slushboxes, in fact I have never owned an automatic saab before, only manuals. That problem is probably related to a sticking solenoid in the valve body, but don't quote me on that. It WILL be expensive to fix at a shop. Sorry to break that news to you, but it is what it is. Have you considered a manual transmission? I drove one for the last 12 years in big city traffic and never missed the auto.

Hi Roto, thanks for that, unfortunately due to various health probs I am not able to go manual.
Think I will give this one a miss.......

Depending on what health probs you may still be able to modify it. I drove my 5-speed with a broken leg. Ran a cable from the clutch pedal to a lever I installed to the left of the steering wheel.

Keep looking. Saabs are generally cheap to buy and you can find a pristine one probably for the same price!

Thanks Roto, thats definitely a thought, perhaps I could get some form of adaptation for the clutch pedal, its worth looking into, because on reading else where the auto boxes do seem a bit "suspect".....

You'd be surprised how many people with limitations drive manual cars where I am right now. Every handicapped stickered car around is a manual.

Unfortunately I do not have very much movement in my clutch leg, if I was stuck in traffic, stop / start I would be in trouble..just to much hassle.
