9 5 transmission slip

new to saab forum, just purchased a 99 95 with 75000, bought it knowing that trany began slipping on past owner while driving on highway, he always serviced car , i am wondering if tranny has a pick up screen incase it may be clogged or possible tranny cooler problems? thanks brad in ill.

Are you sure it's slipping or maybe going into limp mode?

the grants 07-22-2010 07:35 AM

i do not know what limp mode is? the car completely stopped moving but after it sat for about half a hour it would again move do you know if the transmision has a coller and it overheats? it happened on the highway thanks brad

Limb mode is when the tranny control module senses a problem and defaults the tranny to 3rd gear. The car will still drive but very slow start like it's slipping. Are you getting any gear light or check engine light? These trannys don't have a filter or at least one that can be serviced, notice there is no pan.

i will check for gear light , and check engine , i dont believe either though i have tryed to drive car on highway but it did drive short distance with no problem , brad

i am not getting any gear or engine light, drove car about 1-2 miles no slip but revs to about 3500 before shifting out of 1st and second , seems to wind out when turbo kicks in, service security alarm is lit on screen , is it possible computer for tranny ? it is cooler now, wondering if tranny is not hot enough to slip? any help appreciated! brad in il.

Simple things to check first, tranny fluid level. If that's within normal, check for codes. Before diving into an expensive rebuild, its worth trying a flush.

thanks for input, what type of fluid would be good (lucas)? and where to check codes brad
