Fuel Sender problems
 

I've seen this once or twice before, but today was the worst I've seen it. My fuel gauge stopped working. Completely. I started the car this morning, and saw that my tank was on empty. Unless someone siphoned my tank, it was incorrect. I had just filled my tank 40 miles prior to this, as I always use my trip odometer as a backup. I watched my gauge to see if it would start working again. Nothing. I got to my destination, and when I started the car for the return trip, nothing. Then as I pull back into my driveway, SNAP! The gauge pops all the way to full.

I've read a couple things on this, but after reading further in the article, it was relating to older Saabs as in late '80s early '90s. And someone was saying that it was the ethanol in the gas that was causing the gauge to fail over time.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with their gauge?

Does anyone know how easy/hard it is to access the sender in an '03 9-5 and try to diagnose the problem and/or replace the thing?

Anyone have a good source for parts? I do not want to use the dealership or a junkyard for stuff like this.

The sender could be getting stuck, especially if you run the tank low. You can find access to the fuel pump under the rear seat.

I have a 2003 95 aero, and the gas gauge has not worked for the last 5000 miles. The gauge for me seems to only not work when the my gas tank is full, after about a 1/4 of the tanks is used the gauge magically starts to work again. I took my car to get the gauge fixed, but the dealership wanted $300 to fix it. I ended up not fixing the gauge just because I didn't feel it was worth it, and since then nothing has changed. I hope this helps some...if you figure out a cheaper alternative please post it, because its not really a problem just an inconvienience.

Mine is doing the same crap. I want it to stop!!! this isnt good. wife may want to take it and she doesnt need the fear factor. BUT!! ((if this helps. It seems to help me alittle)) what I do is shut the car off at the pump. and fuel extremely slow. i dont hold the nosel trigger on full blast. just hold it to were the gas just flows into the tank slowly. when I do this, I dont see the needle jumping (AS OFTEN). But there really should be something we can do.

Take it out and fix it may be... :rolleyes:
