Headlight wiper question
This has started to happen recently and it has got me a bit confused. I just bought a 2001 9-5 SE 3.0T in February this year. I love this car! Recently, when I start the car, the drivers side headlight wiper goes either one or half of a rotation and stops. Sometimes the wiper gets stuck right in the middle of the headlight. It only happens on the drivers side. I imagine there is some weird current jumping from the ignition to the headlight, but what else could be causing this? There are no messages and everything else is fine so I could really use the help. Thanks in advance!

RE: Headlight wiper question
when you actually "ask" for the headlight wipers do both work? It is common that they break and need to be rebuilt...

RE: Headlight wiper question
Thanks for the quick response. Well, I just went and checked, and the wiper goes up half way and then stops. So you need to rebuild the motor? Complicated process or is it cheaper to buy a new one?

RE: Headlight wiper question
It isn't complicated at all if you're willing to take your time...gotta take the grill off, than the headlight, than take the wiper blade nut off and than undo the motor...a new motor will run you over $200(not worth it IMO), so even if you mess up the existing one you really have nothing to loose. Just take your time carefully cleaning everything and spraying electric parts cleaner into the motor itself (the actual motor inside the unit)

RE: Headlight wiper question
It wasn't too bad at all! Thanks for the help! I couldnt figure out how the heck to get the wiper off of the shaft for a while, but then I saw the hinge and off we went. I just used some electrical parts cleaner to hose off all the connections and the wiper is like new! It only took about 10 minutes including me staring at the wiper trying to figure out how to unbolt it.
By the way, I would like to say that every one of the few things that I have had to work on so far, have been awesome. This has got to be one of the all around best designed cars that I have ever worked on in my life. I don't know if the whole thing is like that, but so far so good. Kudos to Saab for this! |
RE: Headlight wiper question
it is a DIYers car:))) I just did a few major jobs and it was about as straight forward as you could only dream of.
