Heater/AC/High Beams
Hello all, and thanks in advance for any advice on this unusual one (at least for me).
1999 9-5, 132k in mileage. The heater/AC does not blow any air out at all, the high beam headlights do not come on (bulbs are good - all fuses seem good). Tried to check any error codes on the ACC panel and when the buttons are pushed, all I see on the left side is 0 and nothing at all on the right side. I was thinking that it may be the blower motor itself, but it just seemed odd to me that the high beam headlights do not work either, but the lows do and the bulbs seem fine. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, and again, thanks in advance. |
RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
Try this for the high beams: turn on your lights and the fogs, than turn on the high beams and see if the fogs turn off. If they don't than it's something with the switch. The no air to me sounds like a blower motor, but I wouldn't be able to say for sure without looking at it. It could be the ACC itself.

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
Thanks for the response. The fog lights do not work either. Headlights are on due to the dayrunners, and I have not done the thing with, I think, fuse 35. ACC does light up, but that does not mean anything I am sure. If it is the blower motor, I am sure it costs a pretty penny. Where I am, there are very limited Saab dealers.

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
If I were you I'd never take it to a dealer. Parts can be found at eeuroparts.com rather cheaply, but before you go replacing things, try to tap the blower motor and than see if it turns on. If it doesn't turn on I would look for another failure first. Sounds to me like you have NO lights other than the DRLs...when your light switch is in the ON poistion are the rear lights on?

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
Yes, the rear lights are on. The headlight switch seems to have no effect at all, although when it is between the left and middle position, the headlights do go out.

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
sound like you have no headlights at all... it's hard for me to tell you what is wrong, but are you sure the bulbs are good?

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
Yes, the headlights work. They are always on. A friend of mine own's a Merlin's shop here and checked them out but he does not work on Saab's. I am thinking that considering everything going on, it may be some major electrical. I tell ya, back in the 70's, I could work on a car. But with all the changes, geez. lol Being a disabled vet, it further complicates it for me. But let me say that I do appreciate your time in trying to help me figure this out without even seeing the car.

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
Are you sure it's t he headlights and not the daytime running lights? Please turn off DRLs and tell me if the lights still work

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
To turn them off, is that the thing with fuse number 35? I think I read that in the book.

RE: Heater/AC/High Beams
I believe so...
