Saab 9-5 overheating/head gasket
My brother-in-law has a 2001 Saab 9-5 with 75K that he bought new. Unfortunately it overheated very badly and a couple of mechanics have told him it's the head gasket. I believe it's a six cylinder. Anyway, he always has taken very good care of his cars and is ready to junk it or give it to me. I called a Saab service center and was surprised to hear, "If it's a six cylinder, you're looking at about $1500 and it's probably not worth it. Something is causing it to overheat. It may be the head itself and they're not very good cars (6 cylinder 9-5's)."
I wasn't surprised about the price or the possibility that it could be something else. But that a 2001 9-5 with 75K in otherwise good shape wouldn't be worth a $2K repair. I've never had a Saab. Is the 9-5 a trouble car? |
any car is a pain when they start showing there age, mine is a 1999 2.0 turbo 9-5, 140000 miles, apart from a new turbo she has been a good servant, and flying through her M.O.T. , i can see me having her for another 12 months, possibly longer depending on cost of repairs during the next year
