V6 Turbo?

Well, call me an idiot. When I saw the add for the 1999 Saab V6 TURBO I believed it. But now that I own the most wonderful car in the world, I'm finding out that maybe this isn't a turbo. I called the saab dealership nearby and they didn't think by the sound of my description over the phone that it was a turbo. They said the 3.0l v6 does not come with the turbo packed engine. I'm not sure why I'm bummed by this-perhaps because I bragged to everyone that I had a turbo-the car is still really fast. Anyway, can anyone confirm my new information? Is it even worth it to get a turbo into a 99 or should I just simply save up for a newer saab?

Thanks!

PS I've seen other adds all over the internet (carsoup, autotrader, cars.com) for the 3.0L V6 twin turbo in the 99 saab, is this really accurate?

RE: V6 Turbo?

There is definitly no such thing as a saab twin turbo V-6, there was a turbo V-6 at some point, but definitly not in a 99. Why don't you pop the hood and look for the turbocharger....or post an engine shot and I'll confirm what it is.

I own a 1999 V6 which is definitely a Turbo. The turbo is a low pressure one.

Interesting...I can't find the 99 V-6 turbo in the catalogue....may be it's incomplete or I'm blind. But how about that engine bay shot....it's really easy to tell whether it's turbo or not just by one look.

RE: V6 Turbo?

As soon as I get my camera back I'll post some photos. Probably tomorrow. Hopefully we can solve the mystery. In the meantime, I'd like to add that with the windows down, I can hear a sort of whistling sound in the engine-sort of sounds like an airplane (good sound, not bad) when gunning it off the start. Could this be the turbo if one is there? And if one isn't there, what's producing this sound?
