FUEL PUMP REMOVAL

[93 98-03, 900 94-98]
Removal Instructions:

STEP1
Work in a well ventilated order due to fuel fumes & wear gloves due to fuel chemicals

STEP2
Saab recommends having a fire extinguisher handy as well.

STEP3
Remove the Fuel Tank and remove the screw top that holds the fuel pump in. There is a special tool from Saab (8394462). Many will use two screwdrivers to unscrew the top counterclockwise.

STEP4
Once the fuel pump top is removed lift up the pump about 2 inches and then turn the pump about 90 degrees clockwise and pull it the rest of the way out.

STEP5
Fit a new Oaring and realign the pump with the alignment mark on the pump and the tank. Reinstall Top and torque to app. 55 ft-lb.

STEP6
Reinstall Tank.http://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...oval_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(1)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(2)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(3)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(5)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(6)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(7)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(8)_small.JPGhttp://www.thesaabsite.com/Saab%2093...0(9)_small.JPG

RE: fuel pump

There's also a way to do it without dropping the tank, but I'm hesitant to suggest it.

do the 900 have the little door behind the rear seat under the trunk floor?is that the other method

RE: fuel pump

The other method is making that little door under the rear seat. I believe nbsman just did it a week ago and it seemed to have worked well.

so you would have to cut it out on the 900 ha 9000 comes with that door

RE: fuel pump

Well technically there is a door on some of them, BUT it's in the completely wrong place.

Thanks Guys I looked for the access hole only to find it only gives access to the electrical connections. I put a meter on teh power to the pump and found no power when teh key is in the run position the fuse is good. Does this car have a pressure switch that could be affecting teh pump.

I will be making a hole to get to the pump without dropping the tank. I'll let you know how it goes.

RE: fuel pump

if you have no power to the pump I would investigate that first. Reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery and try to measure again.
