Cold air intake question

I'm looking into buying a cold air intake for my 1997 9000 turbo. When I asked someone who worked at a saab rental shop, he told me that the noise it makes is very annoying and that it doesn't give you any advantages over the stock intake. Is there any truth in what he said? Please respond if you have any knowledge of intakes, thanks!

well an intake by itself isn't going to help much...and yea, it makes noise, but some people enjoy it...

I'm fine with some noise. I'm also looking into an exhaust system with a downpipe, will the intake make a bigger difference with those in place?

yes

Thanks. I had also heard that you can have a new ecu chip put in to boost your psi of the turbo. Can you do this and, if you can, how much gain will you see?

The ECU reflash is the what you do after all of your hardware is in place. Talk to either Nick at genuine saab or Jak Stoll about doing this. Expect to pay a few benjamins to have this done.

Have you ever heard of ELk Parts? I found that they have complete exhaust systems. Here is a link, could you tell me if any of these would work for a 1997 saab 9000 cse turbo 2.3L?

I've heard of them, but they're over the pond which makes shipping to the US stupidly expensive. They do seem to have a complete exhaust for your car though...

RE: Cold air intake question

Would they fit my cse because they only say 9000 cs or 9000 cd?

Cold air intakes thus increases airflow to the engine, improves combustion processes and does produces more horse power that simply means more air is allowed into the intake system.
