Full exaust system
Hi everyone
I was looking at someone elses post and i looked there elkpart.com i think and i was looking at the prices for a full exaust for my 1989 saab 9000 i seen serveral for 1000+ and i see several for 600- whats the difference between them? http://www.elkparts.com/index.php/cPath/23_425_505 theres the link to the page im talking about the best exaust to get for the most gains would be what? 3" correct |
RE: Full exaust system
can my 1989 turbo hatch get the same exaust as the saab CD?
|
RE: Full exaust system
try and get a quote from a local muffler shop...they can usualy beat the price on a catback. Where are you from? The answer to this question will determine which downpipe I'd recommend, but the catback is almost always more economical if done locally.

RE: Full exaust system
So what would you recommend for a 1989 Saab 9000 turbo
for high performance what full exhaust system should i get? or should i buy the whole system piece by piece I'm looking for the most gains |
RE: Full exaust system
I am from Jamaica but I live in Sc now
and what would you recommend |
RE: Full exaust system
Sc as in scottland or south carolina? :)
|
RE: Full exaust system
Whoops sorry south Carolina
but I'm going to buy the whole exhaust part for part from Jack Stole starting with the downpipes and ending with the tail pipe i want a custom duel tailpipe |
RE: Full exaust system
Yeah, Jak Stoll is closest to you, but I would like to say that the genuinesaab.com downpipe is an impressive piece too. What I did was buy a GS DP and get a custom exhaust fabricated at a local shop.
|
RE: Full exaust system
Eh sounds good But I think I will stick with the Jack stuff.
What I might do is all the cheaper stuff before this http://www.saabperformanceparts.com/item228.htm they have a list of things I can do to my car and be pushing 230hp, 200 hp is my goal which the exhaust would of done for me what items off this list do you recommend I did the intake already |
RE: Full exaust system
On that list the only things I actually want to do is the ignition wires and a BOV but some told me BOV's don't work well with early 9000
so my list stand as this Exhaust system Ignition wires and ignition coil Apc tuning any more suggestions Roto? |
RE: Full exaust system
Wait what about a turbo charger how do those work
take a look at those as well on the website they have some cheap ones |
RE: Full exaust system
Wait a sec, isn't your car already a turbo? Also how healthy is it? How much are you looking to spend?
|
RE: Full exaust system
Yes it is turbo
I'm looking to spend as much as i can to get to 200-215 hp the rest will go to my appearance i would say its pretty healthy it has 160000 miles it currently needs a clutch slave and master cylinder that my friend will install for 35 he is in the nascar institute and the only other problem besides that is that annoying valve ticking but other wise the car is in good shape |
RE: Full exaust system
Um, I wouldn't call that healthy. I'm not too familiar with 9000's, but valve ticking isn't normal. If it has hydraulic lifters there's pretty much nothing you can do, but if it's mechanical than you should be able to adjust lash and get rid of tick. The stock turbo is plenty good for up to 250hp. You need full exhaust/intercooler/intake as supporting mods and the rest is electronics.
|
RE: Full exaust system
my uncle told me that the oil needed to be changed and upgraded a weight and they are hydraulic many told me its not a problem but i hate it i will do the inter cooler exhaust ans i have done intake
Apc boosting is going to be don't as well but when my friend comes to fix my Clutch slave i will ask him to tell me if the tick is a problem or not |
RE: Full exaust system
it's just common sense to make an engine healthy prior to upping the output.
|
RE: Full exaust system
Which is true but I'm just looking how much the parts will run me Atm
It would probably be a few months before i actually get the parts |
RE: Full exaust system
pick up a compression tester and run that...also at 160K your turbo (if it's still original) is probably on it way out...are you loosing any oil?
|
RE: Full exaust system
Nope not losing any oil my uncle says it needs a heavier weight
i was pretty sure the turbo would go soon but im going to find one off another Saab and run it if not im going to buy a different turbo which probably means better pistons |
RE: Full exaust system
i know some one parting out a 2000 saab 9-3
can i use that turbo in my saab 9000? it will be much cheaper |
RE: Full exaust system
I'm not sure. I don't have any hands on experience with the 9000. I'll find out for you, but I'm sure it can work. You also have the option of rebuilding your stock turbo too.
|
RE: Full exaust system
i think im going to contatc her about her turbo then are they any better than the 9000's turbo?
I'm going to try and rebuild my master and slave cylinder and if she charges to much then i will rebuild turbo aswell does it make any difference buying a new one then rebuiling? and make sure u answer is the 9-3 turbo any better than the 9000's |
RE: Full exaust system
To make the answer simple - no, it's not "better". Why? Because it's not matched to your car. Your ECU will be thrown off by a different turbo. There's a huge difference between a used, a new and a rebuilt turbo, but I won't go in there just yet. Don't take offence, but to me it sounds like you're not yet ready to make an educated descision on a turbo.
