Default Ignition Cylinder Problem

I have a 1986 Saab 900 SPG I have owned for almost 8 mos and I love it but there is one problem, when I bought it the car had a really odd set-up for the ignition, the key is on the left side of the steering cover and the starter button is on the right side......I examined the Ignition where we all know it's truely located and it looks like someone spilled pop on the console and the keys wont go in, now I have the replacement cylinder and gearing (assuming it's nastified as well) and my one problem is if I cannot get the key in to turn it the required click over how am I supposed to accomplish removing the sylinder....and my other concern is what am I looking at with getting the wiring repaired where they obviously rigged in the "replacement" ignition?
