93 Ttid Sportwagon (2011) Suspension Dilemma
HI all, I would very much welcome views on a suspension problem. I have a lovely Saab 93 Sportwagon Ttid (2011) turbo edition. I sometimes have to carry heavy loads (bike rack, mounted onto a fixed tow bar) and a roof pod. The weight of the car when fully loaded is a lot and with the fixed towbar, the back of the car is not far off scrapping along the road surface. You hit a bump or go up a ramp, and the tow bar hits the ground with a thump. Not ideal. Ideally I would like a 93X, but there seem to be very few of them around. For now, I need to improve the suspension so that it can take this extra weight when necessary. Even without a heavy load, the rear wheel arches do appear to sit a little lower compared to the front ones and the rear wheels come down from a raised road section with quite a thud. So I had the rear suspension checked out by a local garage and I am informed it's all fine. But the rear suspension does feel more spongy than springy and I suspect the rear coil springs have lost some of their springyness. The mileage on the car is 88,000. Any thoughts on how I can deal with this problem? New rear coil springs? Stiffer springs? Raise the ride height? Many thanks. Jake.
