Default Antenna Replacement

This is normally an easy task, and I've even done it on other vehicles in the past.

I have a replacement mast ready to go, but after removing the retaining nut I can not remove the old antenna mast, after switching the radio on and off again.

There seems to be a sleeve on the outside that has a spring tab that doesn't allow it come OUT, but I can see how it could be pressed down into place. I can see this sleeve on the new replacement antenna mast I picked up at the parts department.

So how do I remove the old antenna mast, without tearing out the motor assembly from inside the trunk? There has to be a simple trick to removing that sleeve.

Thanks!
