Intermittent starting problem, Saab 9-5 5sp
Hello:
I have a 1999 Saab 9-5 5 speed manual transmission with 174k miles.
Among its various issues is an intermittent starting problem.
Occasionally, and always when my wife is driving, the car won't start.
Battery fully charged, car warmed up, she turns the key and nothing.
I come to jump the car even though I know the battery is ok, and when I attach the cables, the there is a clicking sound, and the fan comes on.
The car starts and it may not happen again for weeks or months.
The key recognition system is not functional, so we almost always have to override that with the key fob.
Does anyone have any ideas?
