I have a 2006 9-3 Aero with the AF40 6 Speed Transmission. I just got a gear box malfunction warning. I attached the Tech 2 and got both P0717 and P0722. These are related to input speed sensor and output speed sensor. The probability of both of these failing at the same time is beyond remote. This transmission does NOT have externally mounted speed sensors like the 5 speed. They are inside the transmission and are connected to the TCM. I do not want to dump a lot on money into the car but I am thinking that this is a faulty TCM. Looking to source a used TCM.

Has any one had this p0717 and P0722 issue on the 6 speed unit???

 

Update,

Pulled the TCM and did a ground check on ISS and OSS.... appear fine. (Btw shift shaft bolt broke removing TCM another story). Assume that TCM is bad. While unlikely, symptoms point there. Hard part to source these days. Not a lot of 6 speed Aeros compared to 5 speed 2.0. Found a TCM in Lithuania for $90. Installed today and worked immediately. I didn't even need to do a replace with the Tech 2. Pretty happy that it worked. I'll do an adaptation program and call it good.
