fuel pump - 2001 9-3 2.0 remove gas tank?
HI all,
New guy here, my 2001 SAAB 9-3 2.0t died in the driveway all of a sudden (after having just been shut off it would not start again) this afternoon with no changer in performance or troubles prior to the "death" and after a lot of reading and poking around I hvae determined that there is no fuel spouting out of the little bike tube-type valve on top of the fuel rail.
I will of course try to replace the fuel filter first, but in the event that it is the pump are there specific spots that "clog" or am I just going to have to eat it and get a new pump? If SO, anyone done this?
Looks like I gotta yank the whole gas tank out....yes? No?
ANY info on this job would be great, the pump is over $400 so if I dont have to pay labor, all the better!!!
Any thoughts appreciated, reply here or at o2bemw@yahoo.com
I am looking at doing this tommorow so if you're out there tonight gimme a shout!

Have you checked the fuel pump fuse first? A way to check the pump is to turn the key in the "ON" position and listen for a humming noise in the back of the car. No noise - no pump. You do have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump unless you want to cut out an access door under the back seat.

Moser is great, old school, little place on River Road in Point Pleasant, I am in Doylestown, it was $565 (including a synthetic oil change) instead of $423 JUST for the part at Fred Beans. 2 guys, 3 hours, BUT BUT BUT we are friends so yourprice might vary, he is a great guy though.

Yeah I try to do most of the stuff myself too but I watched them do the pump and was glad I didn't do it the first time. Next time maybe!
Bill's cool becaue we are friends and he let me change the oil while he did the pump, and he let's me poke around and ask questions etc...

When I first started looking for a fuel pump for my 2001 9-3, I was seeing prices of $350 to $400. I did some research and found a place on line called "Parts Geek". Bought a "new" not rebuilt pump, for $110. Complete module, not just the pump itself. I pulled the backseat and cut an access door with tinsnips, as per an earlier thread. Buying the complete unit is definitely the way to go. I didn't have to disassemble and re-assemble the old unit and didn't have to drop the tank.

The price you paid is impressive while some of the others don't know much about spsrts shopping.
