I've been pissed off about this ever since I bought the car. I have tried aligning the linkage, changing to different kinds of fluids, etc. Nothing worked, so I was convinced that the 3rd gear synchrowas at fault, so I got the tranny apart and much to my surprise the 3rd gear synchro is fine. The cause of the problem is the sleeve that goes over 3rd gear and the 3rd gear itself. You can not see the 3rd gear synchro in the picture because it is inside the sleeve, and it is perfectly fine. The actual 3rd gear and the sleeve have teeth just like the synchronizer and those became worn and were grinding on shift, contrary to what I though, since I was thinking that I was grinding the gears themselves.
