Jammed Steering lock/ignition key failure
Saab 9-3 Auto2003 year model. I was unable to turn the ignition electronic key to release the steering/gearbox lock on my saab . Had to take the car on a truck to the saab agency.
I have now been told that the CIM unit is faulty and the steering lock has to be physically broken , and a new assembly fitted. The computer at the agency has been used to assess the problem.. The car has done only 50000 KM. Is there anyway the steering assembly can be unlocked ?? The car was going perfectly just prior to the Ignition lock failure.

Can you get an independent mechanic to take a look? I personally have never dealt with that particular system, but if it's anything like it is on other cars I see no reason for the replacement.

The vehicle has done only 50000 km. Shall let you know. I phoned Saab mechanics in New York, and was told that the steering lock may need to be broken in order to replace it. This is a weird thing to do. I am writing to Sweden too. cheers.

Hi Roto. Many thanks for your interest. I finally got my car back after 7 weeks and loss of 2500A$.
The CIM module electronic Box like thing had to be replaced, and the new steering lock assembly had to be installed. THe steering assembly had to be wrecked in order to get at the pin , that locks both the steering and the gearbox.
I saw another post regarding the same problem. I now go to my garage in the morning , and start the car, just to be sure that it will start later on.
I am trying to get this as a warranty repair as this is a manufacturing defect.
