Default Looking at a 2002 9-3 Viggen

Hello all,

I have owned three Saabs previously and am itching for a 4th. The one that I am interested in is missing the passenger fog light and that little round "insert" in the front bumper. The bumper is also slightly askew, however the dealer said they would fix that. My concern is that the missing piece and the bumper being off could be the result of an unreported incident. Is that insert just for a tow hitch? The car is about 50 miles away and I am hesitant to make the trip if it's gonna be a larger problem. Any info you all might have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
JB

No way to tell anything without personally looking at it. Make the trip and look yourself. Have them take the bumper off and inspect it. $100 spent on inspection costs is worth it compared to the price of a car you coul;d be overpaying for.

Thumbs up 93 Viggen bumper

Hi, I have a Viggen and have just repaired my bumper last weekend. The problem you have descibed is not uncommon. To start with the round hole in the bumper is an insert for the towing point. It is between the lower grill and the off side fog light. Cost $99.00 from saab. I also had to buy one last week.
Regarding the fog light, they are the first to go whenever you hit something as they are only attached to the plastic bumper. I just bought 2 complete 2nd hand fog lights from ASV Euro spares in Villawood for $300/pr. They are $1100 new from Saab.
Regarding the askew bumper, this is always a problem and I have resolved it as follows.
Take it off the car to start with. easy to do. grill popps out, then lights and blinkers and get under and take off the bottom stone guards.
The problem will present itself as torn wheel arch liners. These either need replacing or repaird in place by hoop iron strap behind and pop rivetted to stiffen then up. Unfortunately the liners really take a lot of the weight of the sides of the bumper. Fit your new fog light before refitting bumper again.
Bumper is only clipped onto the aluminium dumb iron behind. is a one man job to do.
Hope this helps. Call me if you need to discuss further Darren 0414894066
