screeching sound when starting, now runs hot

screeching sound when starting, now runs hot
We have a 2000 SAAB 95 wagon, when I started it, there was a screeching sound. I turned off and reinserted key and it started up with no noise, bur now it runs very hot. Any suggestions of what it could have been that screeched and why is it running so hot.
