Default 900 turbo engine stops when braking?

New to the forum, so I apologize if there is a thread for this situation already - I looked in FAQ and did not find it.

have a 1992 900 Turbo (5-speed) and when I'm driving it and come to stop at light, stop sign or even sometimes taking a turn and hitting the brake, the car shuts off or stalls. It starts right up and runs/idles great. If I'm going a bit faster and hit the brake but let it roll, I can jump the clutch and it fires right up. I poked around on the internet and saw possibly EVAP canister with built in fire safety mode? Funny thing is, I never get a "check engine" lite. Any suggestions - also, where the heck is the EVAP canister? Any help is greatly appreciated.
