So you think I should spring for a new heater box and do the full install? Are there sponsors on this forum that cary Saab products with discounts for members?

I think you should crack the existing boxopen and see if you can fix it before throwing parts at it. for parts I always use eeuroparts.com, which isn't a sponsor, but are very good with shipping the same day and prices are good.

"cheap to service" - I don't se that. A stupid little issue with the heater box that should never happen in the first place costs around $1000 to fix (unless I want to eat up a day fixing it myself). That's not cheap to me. It worries me about the rest of the maintenance of the Saab. It's made us second guess buying a Saab all together. I am a part of 2 foprums for Saab and it seems like all the threads are about problems with the owners Saab. I hope I am wrong here b/c I really like the style and drive of it. I just need more info. and experience with the Saab I guess.

The heater bot is one of the expensive issues if you don't do it yourself just because of the time involved. The parts are comparable in price to those of my old civic. It's an annoying thing, but it's only gotta be done once in the car's lifetime. I'm part of pretty much all of the saab forums and it is fact that everybody posts about problems, but that's normal since most people join forums to get help with a problem.

Ok that's cool. I just can't afford to buy this car and have to dump a bunch of money into it. If it's the kind of car that I can work on myself than I am all for it. As long as it's not a "specialist only" type of car. I will probobly end up buying it for like $3600 with the new heater box, cable and controls done. The rest of the car is in great shape, the inteior charcoal leather.. perfect! I already bought a used right side fender in silver from a wreck here on LI for $40 and it matches perfect. After that all I will need to do is a good tune up, oil change, rims/tires and possibly some Viggen touches~!

If you want I can get you a copy of the workshop manual for this car. It's nothing a DIY-er can't handle since I had a pretty much identical problem and got it fixed...I'm no professional, I just love doing my own work.
