This morning, my wife's 2001 93 decided it would no longer allow the key to turn in the ignition switch. Depress itnope. Wiggle the wheel from the lock positionuh uh. Step on the brake (hey I've seen strange interlocks)nuttin.
Mechanic is baffled, but I'll give him this one in that he and I were on the phone and he could not lay hands on the car.
This evening, it again refused to leave the "Lock" positionbut then inexplicablywent on to start as many times as I liked.

Opens the trunk any time I want, though.

Ideas???

 

did you try it with the second key?

 

Second key's battery is shot.

 

Change it...it's only $4 at walgreens.

 

Ignition has been behaving of late.

I had the same problem with a Saab 9-3, 2003 auto model. done only 48000KM..(31000 miles) The car would not start as the key could not be turned in the electronic socket.

The steering assembly and gear box were locked and the car had to be taken on a truck top to the agency.\

The entire electronic CIM module had to be replaced. Nobody can fix these electonics inside the CIM module. Then the steering assembly had to be wrecked in order to remove a pin that locks the steering. I did not have the car for six weeks.

So, my advice to you is to get the CIM module repaired or replaced , before it gets stuck again.

six months earlier the ignition key failed for no reason (Battery was okay) and I had to use the second key.
