Default Cupholder Craps Out

My 2001 9-3's in-dash cupholder decided it didn't want to hold cups any longer, and broke off. I have a replacement en route (ebay).
I could use some guidance on R&R it; there are a thing or two about Saabs that are not too intuitive.
Thanks!

You'll first remove the SID, which simply slides out. Take your time and gently pry at it from the edges. Use a plastic tool so not to damage the surrounding dash. Once the SID starts to come out a bit, grab the bottom of it from the open cup holder void and pull. Once out, disconnect the cable and set it aside. The following site has excellent pictures describing the above:

http://www.sidrepair.com/guides/instructions.html

As you know from the part you bought on eBay, the cup holder itself also contains the housing for the SID. This housing has four screws that hold it in the dash. Remove them with a phillips screwdriver. There are also four clips that hold the cup holder housing in the dash. Gently pry them inward, toward the center of the void, to release. Try pulling the unit straight out, but this may require some back and forth rocking to complete.

Install your new cup holder unit by reversing the above steps. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. The part should arrive tomorrow & I'll mess with it this coming weekend. Will definitely report back.

Great. Check your private messages. I sent you a message about the broken cupholder.

PM is apparently out of order.
BUT I'm happy to say it was a piece of cake, took less than 5 minutes and involved no tools other than a plastic credit card. No screws!

Thanks again for pointing the way.

Glad you got it installed!

I may want your broken cupholder, if it could be used to fix mine, which won't stay closed. Since PMs won't go through, Email me at "alextrash at gmail dot com", if you would.
