Default Help Please! Ignition cassette question!

Hello, my name is Megan, I'm new here.

I have a 1999 Saab 9-3 (2 door, 2.0L turbo). On Saturday it wouldn't start, and I've determined that the ignition cassette has failed. My problem is that I'm getting conflicting reports on which part I need to replace it with. The part that came out of my car is red. One shop I went to said I could replace it with a black one, which is $200 cheaper than the red one. Another shop I went to told me that the black one is not compatible, and I definately need the more expensive red one. A third shop I called said I need to know whether it's "Trionic" or "Motronic" that I need.

Can someone please help? I would like to be able to buy the cheaper part, but not if it's not going to work!

Thanks,
Megan

You have a Trionic5 car, the black cassette is from a Trionic7 car. A T7 cassette will work, BUT you will not have knock detection. I would suggest getting a red one as it's the one your car can work best with. If you don't mind me asking, how much are you being quoted for a new red cassette? I know a red one is $350 new, don't let anyone charge you more than that for it.
