Default ignition

can anyone help?
saab 9-5 2001 estate
could not insert igition key at all, after abit of coaxing & wheel turning the key went in slightly
after tapping the key it almost went fully into ignition but still could not get car out of reverse gear
i'm presuming it needs a new ignition but how hard is this to fit? how much? & should a professional do the job?

thanks

Yeppers bad igition switch. By debri inside or the tumbelers came apart... I'm all about shade-tree mechanics but with this repair you run the risk of breaking the shift housing assembly if done incorrectly. So I suggest a dealer or aftermarket shop the deals MAINLY with Saabs. Good Luck.

hi

had a mechanic pop by today to take a look-he thought debris but that not the problem

he also put a camera down but nothing has fell into the shaft

he explained problems re moving vehicle due to reverse gear being locked etc & gave 3 options

i think i'm going to buy another barrel & key slice & he could drill out barrel & replace with new one

he had never seen an ignition break before on a 51 plate altho he had replaced one on a vauxhall vectra but that was on a p plate
