Hydraulic Cyclindars
#2
Newer model Saab 9-3 convertibles have seven cylinders (some people call them actuators or rams) that move and latch the top. It's a beautifully designed system, but the seals in these cylinders are biodegradable. The warmer the climate you are in, the faster the seals decay. All seven cylinders look almost identical. The first one to leak is usually the "First Bow Cylinder", which locks the top to the front.
Here are the part numbers for all cylinders. You can find a rebuild service if you google the part numbers, or if you check for the part numbers on eBay:
1st Bow Cylinder/Bow No. 1 p/n 12833515
6th Bow Cylinder/Bow No. 6 p/n 12833509 (RH) or 12833508 (LH)
7th Bow Cylinder/Bow No. 7 p/n 12833495 (right side) or 12833494 (left side)
Tonneau Cover Cylinder p/n 12833502-1 (left side or right side - same number)
I hope this helps,
-Klaus
