brake problem

Default brake problem
While coming to a stop i felt something pop in the brake petal. the brakes dont work now. there is alot of pressure in the petal. Does anyone know what it could be? a mechanic said it is probably the brake booster, but i know it is rare. what can i look for to diagnos the problem?

Same thing happened to me. Cracked brake pad.
